A safe installation starts here
This guide is based on the supplied Honda CR-V installation footage and vehicle-specific kit. Trim, connector, and fastener details can vary. If your vehicle differs from the images, stop and contact a qualified installer.
Verify exact model-year compatibility before disassembly. Disconnect the negative 12-V battery terminal and wait at least 3 minutes before working near overhead trim or SRS components.

What is included
Prepare the vehicle
Protect the vehicle, disconnect power, and remove the original mirror safely.
Prepare the vehicle
- Park on a level surface, switch the ignition off, apply the parking brake, and open the liftgate.
- Disconnect the negative 12-V battery terminal and wait at least 3 minutes before working near overhead trim or SRS components.
- Protect the windshield, dashboard, and trim with a clean cloth. Confirm all supplied parts are present.
Remove the original rearview mirror
- Release the trim shroud around the original mirror base with a plastic trim tool.
- Support the mirror, loosen the mount fastener with the correct driver or bit, then slide the mirror off the windshield mount.
- Disconnect any factory mirror connector by its locking tab, never by pulling the wires.
- Vehicle protected and negative battery terminal disconnected
Mirror and power connections
Install the ClearDrive mirror and connect the vehicle-specific plug-and-play harness.
Install the ClearDrive mirror and front camera housing
- Position the vehicle-specific mount and front camera housing at the factory mirror location.
- Slide the ClearDrive mirror onto the mount and tighten the retaining fastener until secure.
- Route the mirror leads upward behind the housing, leaving enough slack for normal mirror adjustment.
Lower the overhead console
- Open the sunglass holder and use a plastic trim tool to release the overhead console clips.
- Support the console as it lowers.
- Press the locking tab to disconnect the factory plug.
Install the vehicle-specific power harness
- Insert the ClearDrive T-harness between the factory roof connector and the overhead console connector.
- Connect the dedicated mirror power lead. Match keyed plugs by shape and color and do not force a connector.
- Confirm that every locking tab is fully seated.
No factory wire cutting or splicing is required.
Connect the rear camera extension cable
- Join the matching mirror and video extension connectors until fully seated.
- Secure the connection so it cannot rattle, then place the excess harness above the headliner without pinching it.
- Reconnect and press the overhead console into place until every clip is seated.
- Mirror mount is secure
- All plugs are fully locked
- Overhead console clips are seated
Hide and route the cable
Follow the factory trim path while protecting the side-curtain airbag deployment area.
Hide the cable at the front headliner
- Leave a small service loop at the mirror so it can be adjusted without pulling the cable.
- Use a plastic trim tool to tuck the extension cable above the front edge of the headliner.
- Keep the cable clear of the windshield camera, sensors, and sun visor hardware.
Route along the passenger-side roofline
- Continue the cable rearward behind the headliner and upper door seals.
- Use existing factory harness paths where possible and secure loose sections with fabric tape or cable ties.
- Avoid sharp edges, moving trim, and all side-curtain airbag deployment paths.
Bring the extension cable to the liftgate
- At the rear headliner, pull back only enough weatherstrip to access the factory cable route.
- Guide the extension cable into the upper liftgate area. Use a fish tape if needed and protect the connector while pulling.
- Confirm the cable is not trapped under the weatherstrip or trim clips.
- Airbag deployment path remains clear
- No connector is under tension
- Weatherstrip seals evenly
Rear camera and final testing
Install the brake-light camera, restore the trim, and verify every function.
Access the upper liftgate
- Open and support the liftgate.
- Release the upper interior trim panel with a plastic trim tool, working evenly from one end to the other.
- Set the panel on a clean surface and identify the factory route to the third brake light.
Feed the camera cable through the liftgate
- Route the video extension through the factory liftgate opening or rubber wiring boot.
- Pull only from the protected cable body. Never pull directly on a connector or bend it sharply.
- Reseat the rubber boot or grommet completely to preserve the water seal.
Remove the original third brake light
- Remove the factory brake-light fasteners from inside the liftgate and retain them for reuse.
- Press the locking tab and disconnect the original brake-light plug.
- From outside the vehicle, support and remove the lamp assembly without scratching the painted spoiler.
Install the ClearDrive camera brake light
- Clean the mounting surface and confirm the supplied seal is correctly positioned.
- Connect the factory brake-light plug and the ClearDrive camera lead.
- Position the assembly in the original opening and install the retained fasteners evenly.
Reassemble and test the system
- Secure all cable slack away from hinges, gas struts, clips, and latch mechanisms, then reinstall every trim panel and weatherstrip.
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal and switch the ignition to ACC.
- Verify front and rear camera views, confirm the third brake light illuminates, and make sure the rear image is level and unobstructed.
- Front and rear images display
- Third brake light operates
- All panels and seals are seated
Before driving
Final safety checklist
- Brake light verified
- Camera image is level
- Liftgate opens freely
- Harness cannot be pinched
- Airbag paths are clear
- All trim clips are seated
The camera system is a visibility aid only. It does not replace mirrors, shoulder checks, or safe driving judgment. Confirm the area around the vehicle directly before moving.
Troubleshooting
Frequently asked questions
The mirror does not power on. What should I check?
Confirm the ignition is in ACC or ON, the 12-V battery terminal is connected, and both sides of the vehicle-specific T-harness are fully locked. Inspect the applicable vehicle fuse only after checking the connectors. Do not bypass a fuse or probe airbag wiring.
The display powers on, but there is no rear camera image.
Power the vehicle off. Reseat the matching video connectors at the mirror and rear camera, then inspect the extension cable for a pinched section. Confirm the connector was not damaged while being pulled through the liftgate boot.
The camera works, but the third brake light does not illuminate.
Do not drive until the brake light operates correctly. Recheck the original brake-light plug, its locking tab, and the retained factory fuse. If the connector or vehicle wiring differs from the guide, use a qualified automotive installer.
Can the ClearDrive unit still be used as a conventional mirror?
Yes. With the display off, the reflective surface can be used as a conventional mirror. Use the display or mode control supplied with your product version to switch views. Always adjust the mirror before driving.
